Five seconds of reading
Every legal cannabis product in New York carries the same information in roughly the same place. Once you know where to look, the label tells you more in five seconds than any strain name ever will.
General education, not a guarantee
Why the label matters more than the name
Every legal product sold in New York moves under a licence issued by the Office of Cannabis Management, gets lab tested, and carries a label tying it back to the batch it came from. A clever strain name tells you nothing about any of that. If a shop can't show you a proper label, it isn't a licensed product, and neither the shop nor the package deserves your trust.
New York's rules keep moving, and packaging updates as they do. What doesn't change is the habit worth building: look for the same handful of fields every time, on every form, before you decide anything else about what's in your hand.
The one thing to check first
New York's universal cannabis symbol has to be on the package. If it isn't there, it didn't come from a licensed shop — full stop.

Every package on this shelf carries the same fields
If it isn't tested, it isn't legal.
New York requires an independent lab to test every batch before it reaches a shelf, and requires the label to name that lab. That single line is the difference between a regulated product and a guess — it's also the fastest question to ask us if you're ever unsure.
Field by field
Where to look, in order
Same five things, every legal package, roughly the same place.
The symbol
New York's universal cannabis symbol has to be on the pack. No symbol, no sale.
Total THC & CBD
Listed per pack and per serving. On edibles and drinks, the per-serving number is the one that matters.
Batch number
Ties your package to a specific harvest and a specific lab test — the receipt behind the receipt.
Packaged-on date
Flower is a fresh product. A recent date is worth more than a clever name.
Testing lab
An independent lab, named on the label. Ask us and we'll pull up the results.
No attitude about it
Ask to see the results. We'll pull them up.
The batch number on the label is a lookup, not decoration. Give us a minute at the counter and we'll show you the actual test panel behind whatever you're holding — potency, and the testing lab that ran it.

Edibles and drinks read differently
Check the label, not the package size
A single edible package can hold several servings. The total-THC number on the front covers the whole package; the per-serving number is what actually hits you first. Read both before you decide how much of the package is one dose.
Our edibles-timing card goes further into onset and how long to actually wait it out.

Where each field usually sits
| Field | Usually found | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Universal symbol | Front of package | Confirms it's a licensed New York product |
| Total THC / CBD | Front or side panel | Per pack and per serving |
| Batch / lot number | Back panel or base | Ties the product to its lab test |
| Packaged-on date | Back panel | Tells you how fresh flower is |
| Testing lab | Back panel, in fine print | Names who ran the test — ask us for results |

Label questions
Why does my product have a batch number?
It ties your specific package to a specific harvest and a specific lab test. If you ever have a question about what's in your hand, that number is where the answer starts.
Does every product actually get lab tested?
Yes — it's required for any legal product sold in New York. The testing lab is named right on the label, and we can show you the results at the counter.
What if I can't find one of these fields?
Bring it to the counter and we'll find it with you. If a package is missing what it should have, we want to know that as much as you do.
